Tachometer Pulsing - Intermittent
MODEL
Range Rover Classic Tdi Derivatives Discovery Tdi Derivatives
DETAIL
Vehicles within the above Vin ranges may exhibit Tachometer pulsing (intermittent). Investigations have shown that dealers are changing alternators (AC generators) for this concern, when in fact the cause is the connection of the slate/white lead onto the ‘’W’’ terminal of the alternator, if in close proximity to the heatshield.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint of intermittent pulsing of the tachometer, follow the process detailed below.
PARTS INFORMATION
5mm eyelet (locally sourced).
PROCEDURE
Refer to the workshop manual section 86 AC generator.
1. Remove alternator (AC generator) heatsheild so that a visual assessment can be made as to whether this connection is the cause of the concern. 2. Remove lucar connector from ‘’W’’ terminal on alternator (see illustration opposite). 3. Cut off lucar from the slate/white lead and replace with a 5mm eyelet. 4. Refit slate/white lead with 5mm eyelet to the ‘’W’’ terminal of alternator. 5. Re-test
