Replacement Cylinder Head Gasket

DETAIL

A new cylinder head gasket and head bolts were introduced from the above Vin numbers. The gasket is of composite construction with stainless steel fire rings and bolts eyelet’s. The outer row of cylinder head bolt holes were deleted in the cylinder head with its introduction. On June 15 1995 the bolt holes in the cylinder block were deleted, engines built after this date, the old style head gaskets must not be fitted.

Furthermore for engines that meet the following two scenarios, the new cylinder head gasket should be fitted along with a new set of head bolts. For engines which have the alternator mounting bracket stud/ head bolt the original must be re-used as it is no longer available. 1. Replacement short engines supplied from Land Rover after 15/6/95 2. Replacement cylinder heads supplied from Land Rover, to engines built before the above Vin’s

ACTION REQUIRED

Information only: Should any service repair be required on 3.9/4.2 V8 engines on vehicles within the above Vin range the new parts should be used, please inform all workshop Technicians of this Technical Bulletin.
