AFFECTED RANGE:

All Td5, 200 Tdi and 300 Tdi with ZF automatic transmission

RE - ISSUE INFORMATION: Discovery Series II Td5 Diesel PARTS INFORMATION and ACTION text part number references amended. Please destroy your existing copy and replace with this Issue 3.

PROBLEM:

LOSS OF DRIVE FOLLOWING REPLACEMENT OF TRANSMISSION Shortly after replacement of the automatic transmission, complete loss of drive occurs.

CAUSE:

Failure to transfer the output shaft spacer from the original transmission to the replacement transmission. This permits the governor to move away from the oil feed sealing rings resulting in loss of oil pressure and loss of drive.

ACTION:

Ensure when fitting a replacement ZF transmission to any Td5 or Tdi automatic, that the spacer sleeve RTC4300 or FTC3275 (refer to illustration) is transferred from the displaced unit.

Bulletin N o : 0004 L8435bu 3 26.04.2000

The spacer must be fitted to the new transmission prior to fitting the output shaft extension. New transmissions are NOT supplied with a spacer installed.

PARTS INFORMATION:

RTC4300 Spacer - Output Shaft - Discovery Series II Td5 ZF applications. FTC3275 Spacer - Output Shaft - All 200 Tdi and 300 Tdi ZF applications.

WARRANTY CLAIMS: Not applicable Transmissions which have failed as a result of the above must not be made the subject of a Warranty Claim.
