AFFECTED RANGE:

PROBLEM:

OIL LEAKAGE FROM GEARBOX JOINT FACES

CAUSE:

The sealant used on gearboxes prior to gearbox serial number A0678990K was susceptible to poor adhesion in the presence of oil contamination. This could result in oil leakage from the gearbox joint faces.

ACTION:

At the above gearbox number an improved sealant, Marston 607, was introduced. The corresponding VINs are: Range Rover XA 416025 Discovery Series II XA 204405 Defender XA 166274 The new sealant is now available from Land Rover as part number STC4404 and should be used during all R380 gearbox repairs, including those to earlier Discovery and Range Rover Classic. The areas of application are: A - Front cover to case B - Case to centre plate C - Centre plate to extension housing D - Remote control housing to extension housing All joint faces must be cleaned and degreased prior to sealant application.

PARTS INFORMATION:

STC4404 Gearbox sealant - 300ml

WARRANTY CLAIMS: Select Complaint Code and SRO appropriate to the repair carried out.

One 300ml tube of sealant is sufficient for several gearbox repairs. Claims should therefore reflect this with sealant claimed as a ZZZ1 value up to a maximum of £5.00.
