Transmission Rattle At Idle

DETAIL

A new clutch drive plate has been introduced from the above VIN's on range Rover and Discovery. The new drive plate is introduced to overcome customer criticism of transmission rattle at idle.

The new assembly is directly interchangeable with the previous assembly.

ACTION REQUIRED

Where customer criticism is identified on transmission rattle the initial checks identified in the procedure below must be carried out PRIOR to replacing the clutch assembly.

FTC 4204 clutch plate replaces FTC 2149

PROCEDURE

Refer to the workshop manual section 33.

NOTE:

It must noted that before replacing the clutch assembly the following three items can also influence transmission rattle.

1) Engine Idle speed too low, check and adjust as necessary. 2) Engine timing out of specification, check and adjust as necessary. 3) Gearbox shim/build out of limits. Check and adjust as necessary, refer to bulletin 050/93.
