DETAIL

A number of Product Reports have been received that detail incorrect wheel balance at point of manufacture and upon receipt of the vehicle at the dealership. To try and understand this problem the following procedure has been devised to determine the exact nature of the concern. Therefore, when balancing wheels, the procedure is to be followed precisely.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer concern or where inaccurate wheel balance at Pre-delivery inspection is identified, follow the procedure below.

PARTS INFORMATION

Not applicable

PROCEDURE

1) Check tyre pressures and adjust as necessary. Refer to bulletins 74/03 and 74/05. 2) Drive the vehicle for approximately 6 miles (10 Km) to eliminate any flat spots on the periphery of the tyre. 3) Balance any suspect wheel. Steel wheels must be balanced using the stud holes for location and not the centre spigot hole refer to bulletin 048/92. Alloy wheels must be balanced using the centre spigot and not the stud holes. 4) After balancing, and whilst the wheel is on the balancing rig check that the wheel rim run out does not exceed 1.5 mm. If the run out exceeds this limit replace the rim and refit the existing tyre, rebalance and recheck rim run out. 5) Road test the vehicle. 6) If still unacceptable replace the tyre.

5X4W - Tyre out of balance.

The above fault codes are to be used when reporting wheel balance concerns. Please submit a Product Report using these codes and provide full details of tyre type and rim. To assist in identifying the build date of the rim the following information is also required from the wheel rim:
