Tail lamp, brake lamp and turn signal lamp wiring on Range Rover and other European vehicles is of the so called "3 bulb" type. Essentially each
function is supplied from a separate circuit which energizes a separate bulb or bulb filament.

While U.S. Cars are currently designed in this manner, many trailers employ the so called "2 bulb" system which conforms to the wiring practice of older
domestic vehicles. This system uses one filament for two applications in that the turn signals and brake lamps are on the same circuit.

Connecting a Range Rover (3 bulb system) to a two bulb trailer can be handled in two ways:

1.

Add an additional bulbs/bulb housings and wiring to the trailer, effectively updating it to current practice.

2.

Equip the vehicle with a "3 wire to 2 wire" solid state converter.

The second option is probably the easiest. Converters are available through trailer supply outlets or from mail order auto parts firms. The installation is
simple and the unit itself is normally permanently attached to the towing vehicle and connected to the vehicles trailer wiring harness. Follow the
manufacturers instructions closely and make sure all electrical connections are of OEM quality and waterproofed.
