Rear Seat Entertainment System: Discs Skip / Will Not Play - Repair Procedure

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: 

On vehicles fitted with the multi-disc Alpine Rear Seat Entertainment Digital Versatile Display (DVD) system, discs may not play or the discs may  skip
when playing. This may be caused by contamination of the laser unit within the DVD player by dirt or dust.

NOTE:

If the unit is successfully cleaned, please advise the customer of the following to help in protecting the laser from becoming contaminated again:

Check the condition of discs being used;

Review the information covered in the 'Loading a DVD/CD' section of the rear seat entertainment manual provided in the information pack
supplied with the vehicle;

>

Ensure the DVD player door is closed after loading the magazine to prevent dust ingress onto the discs and laser.

NOTE:

Additional information can be found in SSM39981, DVD disc condition that will inhibit playback.

Action: 

In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to clean the laser unit within the DVD player.
