Intermittent Electrical Circuit Operation at Start-up
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
RANGE ROVER (LP)
Up to VA370912 (Early-design column)
From VA370913 (Late-design column)
SITUATION:
IGNITION SWITCH DOES NOT RETURN TO RUN POSITION
On some Range Rovers, the friction in the ignition lock mechanism can prevent the key from returning to position "II" (run) when released from position
III (crank). When this occurs, the circuits that are normally disabled during cranking (for example the audio circuit or HVAC) may remain inoperative.
RESOLUTION:
REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH AND LUBRICATE IGNITION CYLINDER
NOTE:
Late-design columns must be replaced as an assembly. Because replacement columns may be of the later design it is important to verify the column
in the vehicle. See below for specific information to determine whether a vehicle has an early or late style column.
An ignition switch with higher return torque is now available for ignition switch replacement. As part of the replacement procedure the ignition lock
cylinder must be lubricated to facilitate return.
PARTS INFORMATION:
NOTE:
Late-design steering columns may not be repaired. They must be replaced if a mechanical fault occurs. See the column identification section for
details. Replacement columns ordered through parts will supersede to the later design.
