Replace Front Crankshaft Seal

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
RANGE ROVER (LP)

SITUATION:

FRONT CRANKSHAFT SEAL LEAKING

It has been found that the front crankshaft seal can leak on some Range Rovers.

RESOLUTION:

REPLACE FRONT CRANKSHAFT SEAL

A new twin lip seal has been introduced into production on all Land Rover V-8s. Use the following procedure to replace the existing seal with the new
design seal.

NOTE:

The repairs outlined in this TIB are to be performed to resolve customer complaint of the symptoms described.

ERR6490 ................. Front Crankshaft Oil Seal

Loctite(R) 272 or 270 Threadlocker
Engine Oil for Top-up

WARRANTY CLAIMS:

12.65.05 ................. Time 0.65 hrs.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

DISASSEMBLY

1.

Obtain the radio security code and disconnect the battery negative terminal.

2.

Refer to the COOLING SYSTEM Repair section in the WSM and remove the cooling fan.
