Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect both battery cables.
2. Position front wheels in straight-ahead direction.
3. Disarm air bag as outlined under "Air Bag System Precautions".
4. Remove air bag module as follows:

a. Turn steering wheel 90 degrees to access air bag module retaining screws on rear of steering wheel.
b. Remove air module retaining screws, then disconnect module electrical connector.
c. Remove module from vehicle.
d. Return steering wheel to straight-ahead position.

5. Remove steering wheel trim pad and disconnect horn connector.
6. Disconnect cruise control electrical connector.
7. Remove steering wheel retaining nut and steering wheel.
8. Position cruise control cassette with tape to prevent damage.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a

Ensure road wheels are in straight-ahead direction.

b. Ensure cruise control cassette is properly positioned.
c. Torque steering wheel nut to 32 ft. lbs.
