Perform the diagnostic procedures and repairs outlined for the repair of Brake Squeal.

Front Brake Pads

1.

Raise the vehicle.

WARNING: 

Support vehicle on safety stands.

2.

Remove the front wheels.

3.

Push back the piston rod by pulling the hydraulic body towards you. This process can be accomplished by placing a screwdriver into the slot in the
caliper hydraulic housing, and gently levering the caliper against the disc outboard face.

4.

Remove the lower guide pin bolt of each caliper.

! The guide pin uses a special flange-headed bolt (STC1914). Do not use any other type of bolt.

5.

Swivel caliper upwards and remove brake pads.

6.

Clean the caliper piston and housing finger face with Berkebile brake cleaner and a clean lint-free cloth.

7.

Fit new pads (STC3685) with the pad chamfers towards the bottom of the caliper (the leading edge of the disc.)

8.

Peel the protective backing off of the brake pads.

! Do not touch the adhesive backing of the pads because it will degrade the adhesive properties.

9.

Swivel caliper down into position.

! Ensure that the caliper slides over pads without damaging the adhesive backing of the pads.

10.

Reinstall and tighten guide pin bolt to 28 Nm. (21 lbf. ft).

11.

Reinstall front wheels and tighten lug nuts to 108 Nm. (80 lbf. ft.).

12.

Pump the brake pedal to reset caliper to brake pad clearance before attempting to move the vehicle.
