What do I do if the pulley fails?

You should stop the vehicle and contact Land Rover Road Recovery at 1-800-444-3700.

How many North American vehicles are affected?

Approximately 3,000, however some of those have already been rectified so the exact number to be recalled is less than that.

Q4:

What happens to the idler pulley?

A4:

It might develop stress cracks and fail causing it to come apart at which time the serpentine drive belt for the power steering, air conditioning, 
water pump and alternator would go slack causing a loss of power steering boost.

Q5:

Does it fly apart in a hazardous manner whereby someone could be injured?

A5:

We have no reports of this happening but it is conceivable personal injury could result from someone being struck by flying bits of metal should
the hood be open and they be standing in line with the pulley.

Q6:

How long will the repair take?

A6:

About 30 minutes at an authorized Land Rover dealer. Repairs will be carried out at no cost to the customer.

Have you had other recalls of the Range Rover 4.0 SE?

A7:

Yes, to repair a potentially faulty brake line leak. Again, there were no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of that recall.
