DETAIL
A small number of Range Rover 4.0/4.6s have had exterior temperature sensors replaced due to inaccurate readings.
Investigations have found that the exterior temperature display are reading inaccurately below 15 m.p.h, this is due to the location of the sensor, which is
prone to heat soak build up during low speed driving, the
temperature display is only accurate while the vehicle is in motion above 15 m.p.h. Please inform the customer that there is no problem with the sensor,
and the reading will be correct above 15 m.p.h.
In addition, if the ambient sensor reaches 100°F (during heat soak or use) the system will automatically switch to recirculation. This cuts off air flow over
the sensor, so the inaccurate high reading does not normalize. Engineering plans to resolve this issue in 1996.
ACTION REQUIRED
Upon customer complaint of inaccurate reading of the exterior temperature display follow the procedure below.

PROCEDURE
Should the exterior temperature display read inaccurately, it may not be necessary to replace the sensor.
Road test the vehicle above 15 m.p.h for a period of 20 minutes, if exposed to extreme solar loads, and check the readings given by the display before
taking any further action.
