Windshield Wiper Blades Noisy, Juddering
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
LR3 (LA)
ALL
Range Rover Sport
(LS) ALL
CONDITION SUMMARY:
BLADE TAKE PERMANENT SET AND JUDDERS DURING USE
Situation:
The windshield wiper blades are noisy and/or judder as they clear the screen. The condition may be particularly evident at the top of their travel when the
blades move towards the vertical position. The properties of the wiper blade rubber can deteriorate over a time causing the rubber to take on a permanent
set condition after remaining in the park position for a period of time. This condition then results in the blade being driven across the screen against the
permanent set resulting in noisy and/or juddering blades. Once the rubber has acquired a set condition it cannot be corrected.
NOTE:
The permanent set condition does not affect the ability of the wiper system to remove water from the windshield. This issue is purely a customer
irritation issue due to the noise/juddering of the blades across the screen.
Action:
Should a customer complain of noisy/juddering wiper blades, the wiper system components should first be inspected to rule out any of the conditions
listed in the Repair Procedure .
NOTE:
These conditions are not associated with the permanent set condition and therefore not covered by this bulletin. Follow the Repair Procedure outlined
below.
