LINCOLN-MERCURY:

ISSUE:
A "ticking" noise may be heard at idle with A/C ON and vehicle warmed up during warm ambient temperature. The noise may be coming from the
passenger side engine cooling fan motor.
ACTION:
Replace the Engine Cooling Fan Module if the concern is verified. Refer to the following procedure for service details.
DIAGNOSTIC/SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
IF THE TICK NOISE IS PRESENT BEFORE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE CONNECTOR, DO NOT PERFORM THIS
DIAGNOSTIC/SERVICE PROCEDURE. REPLACE THE COOLING FAN MODULE WITH PROCEDURE IN STEP 3.
1.
Verify the concern by running the engine at idle with MAX A/C position selected under warm ambient conditions for approximately 35-40
minutes.
2.
Very carefully apply slight back and forth axial pressure on the white fan motor connector when the fan is operating. Listen for a ticking noise.
WARNING:
DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS DIRECTLY ON THE CONNECTOR. USE A LONG PIECE OF DOWEL ROD OR SUITABLE LENGTH ROD
TO APPLY PRESSURE.
3.
If a ticking noise is present, replace the entire Engine Cooling Fan Module (F5OZ-8C607-AC) following procedures outlined in the 1995
Continental Service Manual, Section 03-03.
