Moonroof (Roof Glass Panel) Adjustment

Incorrect moon roof seating may cause windnoise from the moon roof of the vehicle. To determine if the moonroof is causing any windnoise problems,
take the vehicle on a test drive. While driving, open the moon roof shade completely and listen for windnoise. After this is complete, close the moon roof
shade completely and listen for a noticeable difference in sound levels. If the sound levels are noticeably different (much lower with the shade closed),
perform the moonroof adjustment found in the 1998 Continental Workshop Manual Section 501-17 or Section 01-17 of the 1995-97 Continental Service
Manuals.

The weatherstrip around the door may not be seated fully in the upper B-pillar corners of the vehicle. This "bridging" of the weatherstrip across the
corner may lead to windnoise on these vehicles. To repair this condition, refer to the procedure as follows:

DO NOT REPLACE THE WEATHERSTRIP UNLESS IT IS:

Ripped

Cut

Loose

Pulling off

^

Deteriorated excessively, or

^

TSB specifies the replacement of the weatherstrip

Open the vehicle door to inspect.

2.

Depending on which door is being inspected, visually check the upper RH corner of the door frame for the front door, or the upper LH corner for
the rear door (Figure 1) to determine if the weatherstrip is seated completely in this corner. The weatherstrip may begin to "bridge" the corner in
this area and not seat completely against the lip in the door frame opening at that location (Figure 2).

If any space exists between the weatherstrip and the lip of the door frame opening, the weatherstrip must be adjusted and fit snugly into that corner
as described in Steps 3a-3d.

NOTE: 

A GAP OF ONLY 1-3 mm BETWEEN THE WEATHERSTRIP AND THE LIP OF THE DOOR FRAME OPENING IN THE UPPER B-PILLAR
CORNER IS SUFFICIENT TO CONTRIBUTE TO WINDNOISE.

a.

Remove the weatherstrip from the door frame along the B-pillar and the top of the door opening by pulling the weatherstrip down and away
from the weatherstrip flange.

b.

Pull gently upward on the weatherstrip that was located on the B-pillar. Pull approximately 5 mm (depending on the severity of the bridging
that is occurring) of extra weatherstrip material from the lower portion of the door opening.

c.

Re-seat the weatherstrip on the door frame opening beginning at the base of the B-pillar.

d.

Visually check the upper corner to make sure the weatherstrip is seated correctly against the lip of the door frame opening.

The correct position of the glass to the roof is as follows:

Front corners: Flush to 1 mm (0.039") below the roof

Rear corners: Flush to 1 mm (0.039") above the roof

Adjust the moon roof glass as stated in the Service Procedure to meet these specifications.
