Muffler: Service and Repair
Removal
WARNING: THE NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS VERY HIGH. NEVER WORK AROUND
OR ATTEMPT TO SERVICE ANY PART OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM UNTIL IT HAS COOLED. USE SPECIAL CARE WHEN
WORKING AROUND THE THREE WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC). THESE UNITS HEAT TO A HIGH TEMPERATURE
AFTER ONLY A SHORT PERIOD OF ENGINE OPERATION.
1. Turn OFF the air suspension service switch. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
2. Remove the LH rear air spring.
3. Remove the LH front and the LH rear bolt.
4. Support the muffler with a jack.
5. Remove the clamp.
6. Separate the number from the three way catalytic converter.
NOTE: It may be necessary to heat the three-way catalytic converter (TWC) joint to ease the removal.
7. Remove the exhaust insulators and the ground strap.
NOTE: The exhaust insulators can be reused if they do not show any signs of image.
8. Remove the muffler.
