Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
1984---88 EXC. 1988 V6-232
A one-piece rear oil seal is used on 1984---88 engines. To replace seal, proceed as follows:
1.
Using a sharp awl, punch one hole into seal metal surface between seal lip and engine block.
2.
Using slide hammer tool T82L-9533-B or equivalent, screw tool into hole in seal and remove seal by gently pulling rearward. Use caution to avoid
damaging sealing surface.
3.
Lubricate new seal with engine oil, then position seal on installer tool T82L-6701-A, or equivalent.
4.
With spring end of seal facing towards engine, install tool, then alternately tighten bolts until rear face of seal is within .005 inch of the engine
block.
