LINCOLN:
2005 Navigator
ISSUE
Some 2005 Navigator vehicles built on 12/10/2004 may exhibit an inoperative parking aid system and diagnostic trouble code (DTC) C1983 in memory.
ACTION
It may be necessary to replace the rear radar sensor and the parking aid module (PAM). Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
If the vehicle was built on 12/10/2004 and exhibits this condition, remove the rear bumper cover to check the part number on the rear radar sensor.
a.
If the radar sensor engineering part number is 5L7T-15K859-BA, proceed with Steps 2 through 5.
b.
If the radar sensor engineering part number is 5L7T-15K859-BB, do not continue with this TSB. Proceed with normal diagnostics per
Workshop Manual Section 413-13.
2.
Replace incorrect radar sensor with service part number 5L7Z-15K859-BB.
3.
Replace the existing PAM with the SAME service part number 5L7Z-15K866-AB.
NOTE
THE EXISTING PAM MUST BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT CANNOT BE RECONFIGURED TO RECOGNIZE THE NEW RADAR SENSOR.
NO OTHER SENSOR CONCERNS REQUIRE COORDINATED REPLACEMENT OF THE PAM.
4.
Using NGS or WDS, run PAM Self-Test.
5.
Perform the azimuth system check to verify park aid system operation. Refer to Workshop Manual Section 413-13.
