Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

    On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, the RPM sensor, consisting of a magnetic core and coil, is installed on a flange toward the transmission.
 It senses the engine speed and transmits an analog signal to the control unit.  On manual transmission equipped vehicles, the RPM sensor is located on
the back of the tachometer head.  The vehicle speed is sensed by the RPM sensor on the tachometer.  At speeds above 48 MPH the EGR system is
switched of by the swithcing unit.
