Control Arm: Service and Repair
Upper Control Arm or Transverse Link Replace

    Torque upper control arm bearings, torsion bar upper control arm support and torsion bar bearings only with vehicle wheels contacting floor.

201 SERIES

    The eccentric pin on the transverse link bearing may only be tightened when the vehicle wheels are contacting floor.

1.

Remove lower engine compartment lining, if equipped.

2.

Raise and support vehicle.

3.

Remove front wheel(s).

4.

Remove torsion bar bearing from transverse link.

5.

Remove front spring.

6.

Mark positions of eccentric pins in relation to the frame on the transverse link bearing.

7.

Remove eccentric pin attaching nuts, then the eccentric pins.

8.

Lower transverse link assembly.

9.

Remove clamping joint attaching bolt between steering knuckle and supporting joint.

10.

Remove transverse link from steering knuckle.

11.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque clamping joint attaching bolt to 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm). Torque eccentric pin attaching nuts to 88 ft. lbs. (120
Nm). Torque transverse link torsion bar bearings attaching nuts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
