Body - Modified Front Fender Splash Panel

MODIFIED SPLASH PANEL IN FRONT FENDER
MODEL 123

Since the end of November 1981, a modified splash panel has been installed in the front fender (similar to model 126). At the same time, the PVC
underfloor protection in the front fender-wheel housing area was omitted.

Repair Instructions

On vehicles with the modified splash panel it is not necessary to warm up the front fender for removal. The removal of the inner fender is not required,
only the lower front fastening bolt must be unscrewed.

NOTE:

On a few vehicles with the modified splash panel, the PVC underfloor protection was applied. On these vehicles, the splash panel must be removed
and the fender warmed up, as previously, for fender removal.

Apply Protective Undercoat (Part No. 001 986 46 10) to the new fender before installation. Check the rubber seal for proper seating on the inner fender.
After installing the fender, apply Preservation Wax to the cavity above the inner fender through the opening of the wheel housing.

Since the introduction of the modified splash panel, additional holes have been provided in the wheel housing (for fastening of splash panel and a vent
hole); the part number of the wheel housing remains unchanged.

If the modified wheel housing is to be installed in a vehicle with the previous splash panel, the holes for fastening the splash panel must be closed with
rubber plugs, Part No. 126 988 01 25, and the vent holes with a cover plate, Part No. 110 987 09 44.
