Emission Measurement Adaptor Kit for Passenger Vehicles - Special Tool No. 900 589 01 90 00

Beginning with 1977 model gasoline powered Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles, idle exhaust measurement are obtained upstream of the vehicle
catalyst (i.e. in front of catalyst) in order to examine the engine's exhaust characteristics prior to their being changed chemically be the catalyst. To help
accomplish this, special tool 900 589 01 90 00 has bee specially developed and is now available from the MBNA teaneck Parts Depot.

Each gasoline engine from model year 1977 to the preset, has a 6 millimeter OD tube located in the vehicle engine compartment which taps into the
vehicle exhaust upstream of the catalyst. The subject adaptor can easily be slid over this tube in order to direct the exhaust gas sample to an exhaust
emission analyzer typically found in all Mercedes-Benz service departments. This adaptor is designed for upstream emission sampling at idle only since
sustained exhaust sampling under load conditions, such as those simulated on a dynamometer, will lead to a failure of the adaptor hose material.
Although this adaptor was developed by the Sun Electric Corporation for use in conjunction with their line of emission analyzers (e.g. models EET-947,
EPA-75 and 2001), it is felt that with some minor adaptation the adaptor can be used on the various other brands of emission analyzers.
