Vacuum Pump: Removal and Replacement

Double Diaphragm

Removal

1. Drain a portion of engine coolant from radiator.
2. Disconnect upper coolant hose, then remove fan and radiator shroud.
3. Remove power steering pump drive belt.
4. Disconnect vacuum lines, then remove vacuum pump attaching bolts and pump.

Installation

1. Thoroughly clean vacuum pump sealing surfaces.
2. Install pump with new gasket to crankcase, ensuring intermediate sleeve is correctly installed and two guide pins are properly positioned in

crankcase.

3. Connect vacuum lines to pump, then install power steering pump drive belt, radiator shroud, fan and coolant hose.

Single Diaphragm

Removal

1. Disconnect vacuum lines from vacuum pump.
2. Remove vacuum pump attaching bolts, then vacuum pump and gasket, from crankcase.

Installation

1. Disconnect vacuum lines from vacuum pump.
2. Remove vacuum pump attaching bolts, then vacuum pump and gasket, from crankcase.

Piston

Removal

1. Disconnect vacuum line from vacuum pump.
2. Remove vacuum pump attaching bolts, then vacuum pump and gasket from crankcase.

Installation

1. Install vacuum pump to crankcase using a new gasket, then tighten attaching bolts securely.
2. Connect vacuum line to pump.
