Low Pressure Sensor / Switch: Testing and Inspection

CHECKING CUT-IN PRESSURE 

A/C System Filled
1. Run engine and switch ON a/c system (switch ON blower and temperature dial).
2. If the clutch of compressor does not engage, check both flat plugs on pressure switch for voltage (do not pull plug from pressure switch).
3. If both plugs of switch are energized, the fault is in coil of electromagnetic clutch or on electric line between pressure switch and clutch coil. SEE

4. It only one flat plug of pressure switch is energized, there is either not enough R12 in a/c system or the pressure switch is defective.
5. To check level of R12, pull off both electric plugs on pressure switch and connect to each other (short). Run a/c system for approx. 2-3 minutes.

Shortly after clutch engages check for flow free of bubbles in sight glass of drier.

6. If no or few bubbles, the fault is with pressure switch.
7. Switch OFF ignition.

CHECKING CUT-OUT PRESSURE

1. Connect pressure gauge (service unit or shop tool) to service valve (pressure end).
2. Pull both electric plugs from pressure switch and connect ohmmeter to pressure switch.
3. Evacuate a/c, at approx. 2±0.2 bar gauge pressure the cut-out of the switch must be indicated by ohmmeter (ohmmeter reads open circuit).
