Wiring - Rear Door Harness Repair

MODIFIED COVERING OF REAR DOOR ELECTRIC WINDOW LIFTER WIRING HARNESS MODELS 124 AND 126

As of November 1987 production, the covering of the wiring harness for the electric window lifter has been modified in the area of entry to the rear door.
This provides extra protection for the wiring harness in that area.

If the wiring harness for the rear door is damaged, it is no longer necessary to replace the entire interior wiring harness. The harness for the rear door can
be repaired  as follows:
1.

Disconnect and cover negative battery terminal.

2.

Remove trim panels of B-pillar and of rear door.

3.

Remove wiring harness (4 leads) from the 6-pole plug of the rear door switch up to the B-pillar.

4.

Cut wiring harness off in the area of the B-pillar. Allow enough slack to perform step 5.

5.

Solder a 2.5 mm contact (provided in repair kit) to each of the 4 (brown and green/red, blue/white and grey/blue) wires leading into the vehicle.
Attach the 2-pole connectors to these wires, matching the wire colors to those on the wiring harness provided in repair kit 124 540 27 35.

6.

Install wiring harness of repair kit 124 540 27 35 and connect wiring of same colors with the soldered connectors.

Fasten connectors to B-pillar using clamp 201 988 41 78 (arrows, Figure 1).

Model 124: Insert the female pin connectors (2.5 mm) of the 4 wires of wiring harness (1) into the 6-pole plug (2), as noted below and reconnect it
to the switch (Figure 2).

Model 126: Unsolder the female pin connectors (2.5 mm) from the 4 wires of wiring harness (1) and solder in their place the 4 mm female pin
