Prior to replacing components (i.e. fan, radiator cap, switches, thermostat), it is important to perform proper testing and diagnosis, until the
overheating condition is corrected.

Cooling system tests include:

1.

Preliminary checks

Perform the preliminary checks outlined in Part A.

2.

Pressure test the system and expansion tank cap.

Using the tester (tool no. 001 589 48 21 00), apply 1.0 - 1.3 bar gauge pressure to the system. Cheek for pressure drop and external leaks.

To test the expansion tank cap, refer to the service microfiche, job no. 20-430.

3.

Test thermostat.

a.

Suspend thermostat in a waterbath.

b.

Heat to and maintain temperature at 3-4~C above opening temperature stamped on thermostat.

c.

The thermostat should open at the proper temperature and reach full stroke when the temperature is raised to the boiling point.

d.

Submerge thermostat in a waterbath that is 5~C below the temperature stamped on the thermostat. The thermostat should close.

e.

If it does not open and close during the test, it is defective.

Effective immediately, all thermostats will be tested, and if found in working order, returned to the respective dealer with the warranty claim
denied.
