DATE:
May, 1984 REF. NO. 05/50
SUBJECT:
HYDRAULIC VALVE LIFTER PRE-LOAD MODEL 107 AND 126 WITH ENGINES 116 AND 117
The basic pre-load setting for the hydraulic valve lifters was increased to 1.2 - 2.4 mm (previously 0.7 - 1.9 mm). The larger pre-load is achieved by
using a thicker thrust piece in the valve spring retainer..

The modified pre-load setting also applies to all previous V-8 engines (with hydraulic valve lifters) when checking or adjusting the basic setting.
For diagnosis concerning "Valve Train Ticking Noises", refer to Diagnostic Directory, Group 05 and the relative preload checking and adjustment
procedure in the applicable Engine Service Microfiche, Job No. 05-213.
To increase the basic pre-load setting in previous engines, insert a thicker thrust piece (see Parts Information) into the valve spring retainer. This
increases the pre-load on the compression spring (7, Figure 1) in the hydraulic lifter causing the rocker arm to rest firmly against the cam base circle.
