HEADLAMP AIMING EQUIPMENT

Over recent years, DBAG has improved its headlamp aiming procedure. All U.S. production vehicles have their headlamp and foglamps checked and
adjusted according to SAE specification J-599 before leaving the factory. Headlamp adjustment is not checked at the VPC's unless there is reason to that
the headlamps may not be aimed correctly.

In states where vehicle inspection is required prior to delivery of a vehicle to the customer, or where headlamp aim is checked and adjusted as part of the
vehicle inspection procedure, Mercedes-Benz of North America use of mechanical headlamp aiming equipment, where permitted by law. Calibration of
the equipment should be performed on a periodic basis.

Note:

Never operate headlamps with the aimers attached. Heat generated will loosen attachment suction.

MBNA offers, via the Standard Equipment Program, the Kent-Moore mechanical headlamp aiming system (manufactured by Hopkins). Listed below is
the pertinent ordering information for the headlamp aimers as well as applicable adapters.
In certain states, the state inspection procedure requires the use of floor mounted optical headlamp aiming equipment. In situations when this is the case,
the operator should be sure that the optical aiming equipment is properly calibrated and leveled to compensate for any irregularities in the floor,
according to the manufacturer's instruction. This calibration should be performed on a periodic basis. In addition, when halogen headlamps are being
checked, some optical units require the use of a filter screen. It is important that this screen be used to protect the sensitive light measuring device and
maintain the accuracy of the equipment.

Regardless of the technique used, always aim headlamps with the vehicle loaded as it is normaly driven.

It is recommended that these guide-lines be followed to assure that a vehicle's headlamps are properly aimed.
