DEALER TECHNICAL BULLETIN 01/95

Welcome to the new DEALER TECHNICAL BULLETIN, which will be issued weekly by Service Engineering.

We will use this bulletin to give you quick and informal information about new technical solutions, about critical parts supplies and other general issues.
Actually, all we will be doing is keeping you as well informed as possible!

To assist our Field Personnel, including the Technical Coordinators in the Regions, to search for subjects in these bulletins, we are preparing information
on how to file the bulletins in their computer and retrieve subjects by word search. This way, no group system or damage code is needed. Unfortunately,
this does not work with the dealer systems. If you want to search old bulletins in the future, your Technical Coordinator or SOM will be in a position to
assist you.

REFORMULATED GASOLINE: 

In January 1995, reformulated gasoline was introduced in more states. This type of gasoline has been used in some Metropolitan areas for some time
without fly negative effects on our vehicles. The only noticeable differences for the customer, besides the price, are a stronger odor during refueling and
a slight decrease in fuel mileage. For any customer inquiries regarding these fuels, please refer to the Owners Manual section "Fuel Requirements".
Diesel fuels are not affected by this change. For any customer inquiries regarding the newly formulated diesel fuel which was introduced starting in fall
of 1993 in California, please refer to Service Information 00/55 dated 6/94.

MODEL 140 HORN: 

As of week 35 of 1994, the ventilation system of the horn was changed to prevent water from entering the horn and changing its tone, especially at
freezing temperatures. The new horns were installed in production shortly afterwards.

ENHANCED STATE EMISSION INSPECTION PROGRAMS: 

Several states, or counties within them, have started with enhanced emission testing, in which a vehicle is put on a dynamometer and driven on a loaded
driving cycle. The inspection stations are equipped with 2WD dynamometers and short test equipment; some inspection stations also have 4WD
dynamometers. Mercedes-Benz vehicles with ASR, and 4-Matic vehicles, have to be tested on the 4WD dynamometer or via the short test. Our Emission
Control department will inform the states accordingly. A more detailed Service Information will also be published shortly.

PARTS BACKORDERS / CRITICAL RELEASE PARTS SUPPLY:

1) Brackets for dampers S320: In case of excessive idle vibrations, the vibration damper of the S350D can be installed. Parts available from Service

Engineering.

2) Shudder on Take-Off, E300D (124.131): The modified valve body spring for control valve working pressure (26), part no. 126 993 93 06 05, has

been in critical demand. This part has been phased into series production on the 722.435 transmission of the E300D as of transmission no.
722.435-03-704252. Diag. Directory 3 Topic 27-94021 will be revised in the 2/94 edition to include this information.
