Dashpot: Testing and Inspection

Testing of Throttle Valve Opening Between 30.6 F and 180 F

1.  Connect tachometer to cable connection for terminal 1 of ignition distributor. Start engine and increase speed to approx. 2500 RPM.

2.  Then release throttle linkage and watch vacuum governor on carburetor.

3.  The adjusting screw should rest against actuating lever above approx. 1800 RPM.

4.  Under approx. 1800 RPM the adjusting screw is attracted by the vacuum and moved away from the actuating lever.

Testing of the Individual Switches

1.  Testing of 30.6 F temperature switch.

a.  Pull coupling from relay box and connect test lamp to terminal 1 and 8. Switch on ignition. The test lamp should light up only below 30.6 F

cooling water temperature.

2.  Testing of 180 F temperature switch.

a.  Pull coupling from relay box and connect test lamp to terminal 6 and 8.

b.  Switch on ignition. The test 1 should light up above 180 F cool water temperature.

3.  Testing of speed relay.

CAUTION: Use voltmeter only for testing electronic speed relay. Using a test lamp may damage the speed relay. The speed relay has two
switches.

Testing of Switch Point 1800/2000 RPM (Opening of Throttle Valve)

Pull coupling from two-way valve and connect voltmeter. Start engine and increase engine speed.

Above approx. 2000 RPM the voltmeter should indicate approx. 13 Volts, under approx. 1800 RPM 0 Volts.
