Warm Up Regulator: Description and Operation

    The warm up (or control pressure) regulator, Fig. 1, controls fuel pressure to the top of the plunger in the fuel distributor.  This pressure determines
the resistance the air flow sensor flap will have to the to the incoming air trying to move it.
    During cold start operation, the warm up regulator will reduce the pressure, which will allow the plate to open farther with the same air flow.  This will
supply the injectors with more fuel to improve driveability while the engine is warming up.  As the engine reaches normal operating temperature, the
warm up regulator increases the control pressure to lean out the mixture.
    A bi-metallic spring in the warm up regulator is heated by an electric coil.  As it heats up, it increases the control pressure.  Some regulators have an
altitude compensating function which adjusts for drops in barometric pressure.
