Air Bag Voltage Stabilizer: Service and Repair
Removing and Installing Voltage Transformer for Airbag and Belt Tensioner:
NOTE: In vehicles with airbag 1/3 (recognizable from the inscription 1/3 on the test coupling/plug connection, airbag, 10-pin, X29/9), the voltage
transformer is removed and the cable ends are isolated.
Special Tools (Vehicles Up To 9/87)
NOTE: The 2nd version differs in the
-
modified location of the red 10-pin plug connection from the bracket of the foot-operated parking brake to the plate situated under the foot rest.
Removing;
1. Turn ignition key to position "0", disconnect negative terminal of battery and cover.
2. Remove front cover left under dashboard on 1st version only.
3. Disconnect red 10-pin plug connection on bracket of foot-operated parking brake or on plate in passenger footwell.
4. Remove hardtop or fold back roadster top (on vehicles with heated rear window loosen plug connection).
5. Remove left-hand side panel in rear compartment.
6. Pull off plug connection on voltage transformer and unscrew mounting bolts.
Installing:
7. Screw on voltage transformer and connect plug to voltage transformer.
8. Check system using tester. See: Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics
9. Continue installation in the reverse sequence.
10. Check system using RS or SRS warning lamp.
