A universal spring compressor 924 589 02 31 00 was published in S.I. 32/28 and 58/42 (Figure 1).
Damage to the spring compressor, especially the top plate, is caused by using an impact wrench, and trying to compress the tool after the piston and
cylinder have bottomed out.

CAUTION! For safety reasons, an impact wrench should never be used for compressing or releasing a spring.

Deformed clamping plates or tensioning cylinders with cracked flanges should not be used and immediately replaced. Inspect the above mentioned
spring compressor parts before using the tool.

When installing the spring compressor it is important to see that the lugs of the tensioning cylinder rest properly in the semi-circular recesses in the
center of the clamping plate. Eight coils of the front spring must be compressed.The segmentally shaped cutouts of the clamping plates must point toward
the vehicle center.
