Identification of Front and Rear Shaft

The front and rear driveshafts are marked for assembly (arrows, Figure 3). There is a small protrusion on the front shaft and two arrows on the yoke
of the joint. The protrusion on the front shaft should be aligned between the two arrows on the yoke.
NOTE:

Prior to August 1982, the assembly marks were present on some driveshafts, but were not used for alignment purposes when joining the
shafts. Before removing these shafts, mark the yoke and shaft with alignment marks using a marking stick or paint. This will insure proper
alignment of the components when the driveshaft is reassembled.

CAUTION: Misaligned shafts will cause the U-joint to be out of phase and an unbalanced driveline.

Repair Hints

The following must be observed when performing repair work on the driveshaft intermediate bearing or radial ball bearing:

1.

Observe or apply marks (see NOTE, section B) before disassembling the front and rear driveshafts.

2.

The protective cap and intermediate bearing should be removed together, using a two-arm type Puller (Special Tool No. 000 589 88 33 00).

Install the protective cap with a self-made installation sleeve (Figure 4). Be sure that the protective cap fits properly on the radial ball bearing
(Figure 5).

IMPORTANT: The pressed-on protective cap should only be used once.

The previous version protective cap with locking ring must be retained for repair purposes. The two protective cap versions are not
