Control Arm: Service and Repair
Upper Control Arm or Transverse Link Replace

    Torque upper control arm bearings, torsion bar upper control arm support and torsion bar bearings only with vehicle wheels contacting floor.

107 SERIES

1.

Disconnect steering knuckle arm from steering knuckle.

2.

Disconnect and cap brake hose from brake line.

3.

Pull bracket from brake line.

4.

Remove guide joint and supporting joint attaching nut.

5.

Using a suitable tool, remove guide joint from steering knuckle.

6.

Remove both upper control arm attaching nuts, then the upper control arm.

7.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque supporting joint attaching nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm). Torque guide joint attaching nut to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
Torque upper control arm bearing attaching bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm). Torque steering knuckle arm attaching bolts to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).

123, 124 & 126 SERIES

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle. Place vehicle supports against lower control arm.

2.

Remove front wheel(s).

3.

Loosen guide joint attaching nut.

4.

Using a suitable tool, remove guide joint from steering knuckle.

5.

Secure steering knuckle from tilting using a suitable hook placed on the control arm.

6.

Remove upper control arm support.

7.

Loosen upper control arm bearing, then remove upper control arm from vehicle.

8.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque upper control arm bearing attaching bolt to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm). Torque guide joint attaching nut to 29 ft. lbs.
(40 Nm). Torque upper control arm support to torsion bar attaching bolt to 48 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).
