Expansion/Freeze Plug: Service and Repair
Replace Core Hole Plugs In Crankcase
Remove
DANGER:

Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform

Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by
the vehicle manufacturer.

Drain coolant

Remove attached parts in the area of the leaking core hole plug
NOTE: Engine 111 refer to Location of core hole plug

Knock in core hole plug sufficiently on one side e.g. using a screwdriver, until it has turned

Pull out core hole plug at the collar

Install

Thoroughly clean core hole
NOTE: The adhesive surfaces must be free of oil, water and rust, see fig. E (arrow).

Observe manufacturers instructions!

Spray sealing surface with activator

Coat core hole with sealant

Insert new core hole plug with drift punch (Fig F)
NOTE: The sealant must be allowed to harden for about 45 minutes before pouring in coolant.

Install attached parts

Pour in coolant

Run engine and inspect cooling system for leaks.
