DTCs C1035 and C1037 in Electronic Stability Program (ESP) Control Module
On Model 203 vehicles with the above transmission produced as of November 15, 2001,if you encounter instances of the above DTCs it is possible that
the Electronic Transmission Control module with part number 030 545 23 32 (ETC 52 Q01 or SW 14/01) transmitted erroneous data onto the CAN BUS
C to ESP. The Electronic Stability Program control module (ESP) receives the data and then erroneously assumes that the signal from the steering angle
sensor was transmitted via the jacket tube module and not via the combined rotation rate/lateral acceleration sensor. Since the jacket tube module is not
presently installed in model 203, the ESP control module does not receive any actual data from it and stores the specified DTCs.
Preliminary step:
ESP system identification
Determine which ESP system is installed in the vehicle. Conversion from MK20 to MK25 in production was accomplished on approx. 08/2001,
however, some preliminary vehicles were produced. The following can be utilized to determine whether the new ESP MK25 system or the previous ESP
MK20 system is installed:
NEW MK 25 ESP:
A single pressure sensor on the master brake cylinder:
The new combined yaw rate control module/lateral acceleration sensor.
PREVIOUS MK 20 ESP:
Two pressure sensors on the master brake cylinder
Individual yaw and lateral acceleration sensor.
REMEDY FOR MK25 ONLY:
Replace Electronic Transmission Control module (ETC).
Use EGS Q02 or SW 42/01. Never replace ESP control module, steering angle sensor or combined rotation rate/lateral acceleration sensor.
