Malfunction Lamp / Indicator: Description and Operation
Airbag Indicator and Warning Lamp

The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) of the instrument cluster (A1) is used for functional checks of the safety restraint systems. In the event of
a fault, one of the following messages will also appear in the multi-function display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1):

System in order
If the system is in order, the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) from position "1" of the ignition switch lights up and goes out again after
approx. 4s. If it does not do this, there is a fault with the system.

Non-critical faults
Faults or problems which do not endanger the vehicle occupants exist when the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) in position "1" of the
ignition switch clearly stays on longer than 4s.

NOTE:  In addition, the message: "RESTRAINT SYSTEM SERVICE" will appear in the multi-function display (A1p13).

Critical faults
Faults or problems, which cannot lead to a release or to a wrong release of the safety devices are indicated by uninterrupted illumination of the
airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) with the engine running. In the event of such faults, the safety of the vehicle occupants can no longer
be guaranteed.

NOTE:  In addition, the message: "RESTRAINT SYSTEM GO TO WORKSHOP" will appear in the multi-function display (A1p13).

Restraint systems control module (N2/7) not parameterized
A non-parameterized restraint systems control module (N2/7) is indicated by flashing of the airbag control and warning light (A1e15). If the
system has another fault, it will be displayed, as parameterization has a lower priority.

NOTE:  In the event of fault or problem, the whole of the system should be checked out with the STAR diagnosis tool. The mechanical function
of the seat belts is independent from the restraint systems control module (N2/7) and is not monitored by the system.
