Ensure catalytic converter has cooled sufficiently to ensure prevention of bodily injury.

If the clearance gap is found to be incorrect, and the pinch bolt is present please proceed with the following steps:

Using the appropriate tools, see:

Note: below,

loosen threaded connection and mount steering coupling correctly, ensure that the self-locking nut (PIN A140 990 09 58) is replaced as well. It may
be necessary to rotate shaft to point the front wheels in a different direction in order to gain access to the steering coupling pinch bolt and lock nut
(arrow, Figure 8):

Place a 13 mm socket wrench (arrow, Figures 7, 8) on bolt head to counter bolt: Route socket wrench through opening between steering rack and
front subframe and place on bolt head

Hold newly installed lock nut using a 13 mm flexible socket, extension and ratchet (Figure 9) while assistant holds socket wrench (arrow, Figure 8)
to counter-hold bolt

Tighten the steering coupling pinch bolt and lock nut (arrow, Figure 7) between steering coupling and steering gear to the specified torque (see
below). Ensure clearance between coupling and rack is within specification (5 mm).

Note:

Use of the proper tools and procedure to torque the steering coupling pinch bolt with lock nut (Figure 7) is required, see:
