Wind Noise

This bulletin is intended to assist in finding an effective solution to the complex topic of customer reports about "wind noise".

NOTE:  The four critical points are to be referenced in the following procedures:

I.

Wind noise from outside rearview mirror on left and/or right front door

II. Wind noise in the area of the roof frame seal

III. Wind noise in the area of the rear side window bar seal

IV. Wind noise from the drive and front passenger doors

There are four critical points where this complaint can arise (Figure 1):

1. At the mirror triangle (1-Figure 1)

2. Across the entire length of the roof frame seal (2-Figure 1)

3. At the rear side window bar seal towards the driver's door window (3-Figure 1)

4. Gap from door to rear fender (4-Figure 1)

NOTE:  For each wind noise complaint received, comparisons should be made using a reference vehicle.

I.Wind noise from outside mirror on left and/or right front door

Cause: External roof frame sealing lip (1-Figure 2) gets pinched when closing the door.
