Seat Belt Control Module: Description and Operation
Purpose

During normal driving operation the airbag control module (N2/7) has the following functions:  

-

Self-test when circuit 15R is switched "ON" and continuous system monitoring while driving 

-

Storing up to 10 recognized faults in the DTC memory 

-

Actuation of the airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) in the instrument cluster when a DTC is recognized 

-

Actuation of the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp (N72e1)/automatic child seat recognition airbag OFF indicator lamp (E16) 

-

Preventing erroneous actuation during normal vehicle operation by additionally implemented safety sensor

The airbag control module (N2/7) takes over the following functions in the event of a collision:

-

Recognition and evaluation of type of impact and severity 

-

Recognition of left front seatbelt buckle switch with AB and ETR (S68/3) and right from seatbelt buckle switch with AB and ETR (S68/4) ((USA)
version only)

-

Actuation of driver airbag (R12/3) and passenger airbag (R12/4) (model 220 Passenger airbag squibs 1 and 2 (R12/4, R12/5)) 

-

Actuation of driver-side ETR squib (R12/1) and passenger side ETR squib (R12/2) 

-

Actuation of left rear ETR squib (R12/6) and right rear ETR squib (R12/7) (special equipment) 

-

Actuation of left front side airbag squib (R12/20) and front right side airbag squib (R12/21) 

-

Actuation of left rear side airbag squib (R12/11) and right rearside airbag squib (R12/12) (special equipment) 

-

Actuation of left rear window airbag squib (R12/22) and right rear window airbag squib (R12/23) (special equipment) 

-

Recording of up to three collision protocols 

-

Shutting off the engine in the event of airbag actuation via the engine control module (ME-SFI) (N3/10) (gasoline) or EDS control module (N39/2)
(diesel) 

-

Completing an emergency call via the TELE AID control module (A35/8) in the event of airbag actuation, in the event of a severe rear end
collision or a rollover 

-

Securing energy reserves for igniting squibs in the event of power supply failure (request: it must be possible to ignite 5 squibs simultaneously
within 150 ms following power supply failure)
