always active. In the event of an emergency call the CTEL and TELE AID transmitter/ receiver, D2B (A35/17) checks the signal level of the CTEL
antenna (A2/22). If this is not sufficient, the level of the emergency call system left backup antenna (A2/54) and emergency call system right backup
antenna (A2/55) is checked. The antenna with the higher signal level is used for radio connection.

The telephone transmitter/receiver unit is integrated in the D2B telephone and TELE AID transmitter/receiver (A35/17).

For normal telephone calls, the call is handled via the CTEL antenna (A2/22).

In the event of an accident (e. g. rollover) this antenna can be destroyed. This means that an emergency call would no longer be possible In order to
avoid this situation without fail, the emergency-call backup antennae (A2/50) have also been installed along with the CTEL antenna.

These are mounted in largely crash resistant conditions in the vents below the rear bumper and are only used where necessary. As long as an alarm call is
not actuated, the CTEL antenna is always active. In the event of an emergency call, the E-call control module
(A35/8) checks the signal level of the telephone antenna and the Emergency-Call backup antenna (A2/50).
Depending on the result the E-CALL control module (A35/8) then switches over to the "better" antenna and transmits the emergency call.

Normally the telephone connections are handled over the telephone antenna (A2/22) (model 209.4, model 209.3 up to 31.5.06) or over the telephone
antenna (A2/49a1) (model 209.3 as of 1.6.06), which is located on the roof.

In the event that the telephone antenna (A2/22 or A2/49a1) is defective, the emergency call system control unit (N123/4) actuates the emergency call
system left backup antenna (A2/54) and the emergency call system right backup antenna (A2/55) in the rear bumper over the emergency call system
antenna splitter (A2/25).
