Furthermore, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is always on "Standby" when CAN-B is active.

Switch off characteristics at undervoltage

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) constantly monitors battery voltage. The system behaves as described below depending on
the voltage value.
If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 V (battery warning area), a message appears in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit
(A40/3) asking for the engine to be started. If the engine is not started, a further warning is issued after 3 minutes that there are still 10 seconds left to
start the engine before the system shuts down. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. If the system
has shut down and the voltage rises above 11.5 V again, the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) does not switch on again
automatically.

After being switched off the system can be switched on again manually. The warning procedure is then repeated until the fault is repaired.

Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition, in which only the battery voltage
continues to be monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored.

The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) cannot be operated in this condition or is not addressable via STAR DIAGNOSIS.
Communication with external components does not take place.

Activation of overall system

Position 0 "key in ignition"
In order to ensure a quicker switch-on process, only the bus systems are activated for 3 minutes by inserting the transmitter key (A8/1) into the EIS
(EZS) control unit (N73), position 0 (circuit 15C ON). If the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is switched on using the "ON/OFF" button, the automatic
shut-off takes place after 30 minutes.

Position 1 "radio position"
Turning the transmitter key (A8/1) to position 1 (circuit 15R ON), switches on the radio and navigation unit (A2/56), provided that it was on before the
transmitter key (A8/1) was last removed. remains in operation until the transmitter key (A8/1) is removed again.

Position 2 "ignition"
By turning the key further to position 2 (circuit 15 ON), all functions in the vehicle are rendered operational. The system which was active before it was
last switched off (e.g. radio and navigation unit (A2/56)) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed.
If the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) was switched off for longer than 30 minutes, a warning menu containing general information on how to operate
the system is displayed.

Position 3 "engine start"
In position "circuit 50 ON" the engine is started. If a considerable voltage drop occurs (U < 11.5 V) while the engine is being started, the radio and
navigation unit (A2/56) switches off for the time it takes the start the engine. It switches on again after the on-board electrical system has stabilized.

Activating navigation

The navigation system is activated automatically via the class B (interior) controller area network bus (CAN-B) when the driver door is opened.
This process takes approximately 2 seconds. The display in the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) remains switched off. If, as a result of this, no status
