Exhaust Manifold: Removal and Replacement
Remove/Install Exhaust Manifold
Remove, Install
DANGER:

Risk of fatal accident from vehicle slipping or toppling off the lift platform
-
Align vehicle between the columns of lifting platform and position the four support plates below the support strong points specified by the
vehicle manufacturer.

Remove air cleaner
NOTE: Remove air cleaner by lifting vertically up and off the cylinder head covers.

Remove ignition coils on driver side

Slacken top nuts (156) from exhaust manifold (156/1)
NOTE: The rear inaccessible nuts can be easily slackened from below.

Disconnect O2 sensor connector

Remove complete exhaust system

Slacken bottom nuts (156) of exhaust manifold (156/1)

Remove exhaust manifold (156/1)
NOTE: Take out both exhaust manifolds (156/1) downward.
CAUTION: Installation: Replace nuts (156/1) and gaskets in order to ensure leak tightness of the exhaust system.

Nut on exhaust manifold, (Engine 113.968) = 16 Nm
NOTE:

If the bolts in the flange connection of the front exhaust system/exhaust manifold are difficult to move or the threads are damaged:
-
Replace rivet nuts in exhaust manifold (156/1).

Exhaust manifold flange connection and front exhaust pipes = 20 Nm

Caulking bolt: See Special Tools below.

Install in the reverse order
