Thermostat: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

Risk of scalding as a result of hot coolant spraying out

Open cap of expansion reservoir or radiator (2)

Do not open the cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless the coolant temperature is below 90°C.

Carefully turn cap to the first detent or slowly about 1/2 turn.

Wear protective clothing. 

1. Drain coolant, refer to Draining/Filling Cooling System. 
2. Remove coolant thermostat housing (17)
3. Remove coolant thermostat (20)

INSTALLATION

Install in the reverse order, noting the following:

The recess at the coolant thermostat (20) must be aligned with the rib on the coolant thermostat housing (17) (arrow)
Replace O-ring (19)
Check cooling system for leaks, refer to Test System For Leaks. See: Testing and Inspection
