Remove supporting joint

Remove upper transverse control arm

Move the ball pin in all directions with a approximately 150 mm long pipe

NOTE:  The ball pin should move without play and without seizing, and should not cause any grinding noises

Check boot (7f, 8f)

Check for cracks and damage if necessary replace supporting joint and/or upper transverse control arm

Install supporting joint

Install upper control arm

With Joint Removed

Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

Move ball pivot in all directions with a tube approx. 150 mm in length
it should be possible to move the ball pivot without any play and without jamming or creaking noises

If the boot is leaking, replace supporting joint 
Check boot (7f, 8f) for cracks and damage.
