Oil Cooler: Service and Repair

NOTE:  Numbers in parentheses ( ) indicate a component or tool in the associated illustration.

REMOVAL 

WARNING:

Risk of scalding from hot coolant spraying out

^

Do not open the cap of the expansion reservoir or radiator unless the coolant temperature is below 90°C.

Carefully turn cap to the first detent or slowly about 1/2 turn.

Wear protective clothing. 

1. Drain coolant, refer to Cooling System.
2. Remove starter, refer to Starting and Charging.
3. Drain engine oil from oil filter, refer to Drain Housing and Replace Element. 
4. Unbolt electric wiring harness at oil filter
5. Unbolt oil filter housing (10) and lift out

Pay attention to dowel sleeves (8)

6. Pull connection installings (16, 17) out of crankcase

INSTALLATION

Install in the reverse order, noting the following:

Pay attention to filter housing (10) dowel sleeves (8).
Clean filter housing (10) of gasket residues on sealing surfaces.
Replace filter housing gasket (9)
Replace oil-to-water heat exchanger (14) O-rings(15)
Replace connection installings (16, 17) O-rings (18, 19 and 20).

Coat with coolant before installing.
Do not use engine oil.
