Power Interrupt Connector/Switch: Description and Operation

Component Identification

Vehicles to be shipped overseas have been equipped with a battery disconnection switch on the negative pole of the batteries since approx. 06/93. The
ground connection can be interrupted with the battery disconnection switch. This prevents the battery from being discharged by quiescent current loads
during transport and longer storage periods.

NOTE:  On model 210 the battery disconnection switch is connected to the battery ground (W10) in the right rear seat footwell.

NOTE:  Do not switch battery disconnection switch to the "OFF" position with the engine running. Interruption of the power with the engine running
can lead to considerable damage to the vehicle electrical system. 

Notes on handling battery disconnection switch on vehicles with infrared remote control 
To interrupt the power supply using the battery disconnection switch on vehicles with infrared remote control always observe the procedure given below.

1. Open right rear door.
2. Close trunk lid or tailgate, left rear door, left and right front doors
3. Lock vehicle with infrared remote control. 
4. Switch battery disconnection switch to "0FF" position.
5. Close right rear door.

To switch on the power supply when interrupted, unlock front passenger door with (mechanical) key, switch battery disconnection switch to "ON"
position and close door again. Then unlock and lock vehicle twice with infrared remote control.

Notes on removing and recycling battery disconnection switch 
Before delivering the vehicle to the customer it is necessary to remove the battery disconnection switch.

After removing the battery disconnection switch and connecting the ground lead to the negative pole on the battery or the battery ground (W10) perform
the following work:

-

Code radio.

-

Synchronize power windows.

-

Set time on stationary heater, where applicable.

-

On vehicles with ADS, reactivate steering angle sensor.

Return of removed battery disconnection switches is intended only for countries participating in the ZVL Germersheim exchange part return system. The
parts department can provide information on returning. In all other countries scrap the battery disconnection switches.
